My Job…

As teachers we want students to learn from and be encouraged by us. Today, I reminisce about ALL of the AMAZING students who have inspired me throughout my years of teaching, and I am eternally grateful for the lessons they have taught me, and the passion they continue to put inside me making me LOVE my job! Love to all of my former, present, and future students for the learning we have done/will do together!

The saddest thing I have ever heard:
I (sabino) just read a comment from a 2004 article by the New York Times about the loneliest whale in the world. Scientists have been tracking her since 1992 and they discovered the problem:
She isn’t like any other baleen whale. Unlike all other whales, she doesn’t have friends. She doesn’t have a family. She doesn’t belong to any tribe, pack or gang. She doesn’t have a lover. She never had one. Her songs come in groups of two to six calls, lasting for five to six seconds each. But her voice is unlike any other baleen whale. It is unique—while the rest of her kind communicate between 12 and 25hz, she sings at 51.75hz. You see, that’s precisely the problem. No other whales can hear her. Every one of her desperate calls to communicate remains unanswered. Each cry ignored. And, with every lonely song, she becomes sadder and more frustrated, her notes going deeper in despair as the years go by.

This is unreal.  Something so sad and beautiful about it.  Poetic.

Spent a month THERE one night...: VD

lil-brieezy:

I wasn’t going to rant… or acknowledge today really… and then I went back to “YEAH, I gotta get this out of my system.”  My first encounter with another human being today was with the delivery guy who brought my beloved new laptop to me this morning before work (Yay! Finally!).  And I was EXCITED about it.  But the encounter went a little something like this…

Delivery Guy: This must have been a Valentines Day present.

Me: Uh, nope.  I paid for it.

Delivery Guy: Oh, that sucks!

Does it?!  ‘Cause last I checked, I was pretty happy that I’m able to purchase things without anyone’s help.  And what a terrible gift a laptop would be from a lover.  Seriously.  And that, I feel, has set the tone for my day.

Single people do not need to be pitied today.  We don’t need “How to survive Valentine’s Day single” articles.  We survive EVERY day as single people… Yes, it sucks to wake up alone every day.  Yes, it stings a little when you want to share good news with someone special (or vent about your day).  But we single people have friends.  I have phenomenal, smart, funny, beautiful friends who are single today.  We are pretty awesome.  And someday, when we are coupled up, we won’t need a damn holiday to show that person we care (or prove to others how much we care for each other via Facebook).  So HAPPY ARBOR DAY!  Plant a tree.  And to all the wonderful people in my life—as I have told you often—I love you.

Bri- I love you and I am so happy to have another fabulous single friend in my life!  We are amazing it and rocking the world…

Women = Weddings

After a long day and drive home from school/work tonight, I was listening to the very entertaining hip hop of today 97.1 radio station….ending the latest hit, insert commercial and me half paying attention (because of TiVo I usually change commercials, but not tonight)…women’s basketball…halftime…wedding expo?!  WHAT??!!  I turned up the volume.  This weekend the University of Utah plays BYU, purchase a ticket to the wedding expo, and you get to go to the game for “free” with a spectacular half-time wedding show!  WOW!!  Is this what women’s basketball is all about?!  As Sasha said, “This would never happen at a men’s basketball game”…why must we continue to make a mockery of women, or is it just this wedding crazed city that supports and fosters such nonsense?! Really…
